Copperfield

Copperfield is a development of the Friendswood Development Company. Friendswood purchased the land in the late-1970s, intending to build a place where residents could live peacefully and enjoy their surroundings. Home development began almost immediately and continued until 2003, when the seventh village, Copperfield Place Village, was completed.

The quality of local schools is a factor many families consider when deciding where to buy their next home. For Copperfield, this is another of the community’s selling points. Several schools in the area have been recognized with the national Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award. These include Owens Elementary, Fiest Elementary, Lowery Elementary, Labay Middle School, Cypress Falls High School and Langham Creek High School. Given that the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District has 60 schools in total, it’s quite an accomplishment that almost all of the Copperfield area schools have been recognized for their performance.

Prospective college students have many opportunities in nearby Houston. Public and private universities plus community colleges and vocational programs serve the needs of all types of students. Both the Houston Community College System and the North Harris Montgomery Community College District offer two-year programs and transferable general education coursework. The University of Houston system caters to more than 54,000 students, through four universities and two teaching centers. Private options include Rice University and Houston Baptist University.

Recreation in Copperfield typically revolves around traditional, outdoor fun. Local athletic facilities, public and private, provide venues for youth and adult sports. Events, programs and activities are held at the public pools and the community center. The Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts are active in the community as well.

The proximity of Houston provides a nice offset to the hometown feel of Copperfield. Houston’s selection of professional and collegiate sports, cultural activities and performing arts, plus shopping, dining and nightlife is diverse and extensive. With a population of about 2 million, Houston is active and exciting. Many Copperfield residents prefer to avoid the bustle of the city, but like knowing that it’s there when they need it.
